3 Common Pitfalls to Avoid in your Mobile Website Design

1. Pop-up Ads
After a brief hiatus, pop-up ads are beginning to become popular once again. While they can be effectively incorporated into a mobile design, site owners should use them wisely or risk lowering their traffic numbers. A common mistake is using pop-up ads that are hard to close or take too long to load. To effectively use pop-up ads on your mobile site make sure that they are easy to dismiss, only open once or twice a visit, and are timed appropriately.

2. Too Large of Images or File Sizes
There is nothing more frustrating for site visitors than waiting for a large image to load. The larger the file the longer it takes to load. Their impatience may even cause them to leave your site all together. Keep your images and files sized to a minimum showcasing only those that are completely necessary. You can also use compressed images to further speed up the loading time.

3. Slow Loading Speed
When people are on the “go”, they are often looking for quick load times on the websites they access. While the typical web page loads in 10 seconds, you may want to cut your site’s time down by a second or too. Run a site speed test to determine the load rate and then take steps to make the process quicker.
