How to Market Outside Your Niche

Doing well in your own niche is great. In fact, it’s important for businesses to be successful in their own industry if they want to maintain healthy revenue. But how do you continue to grow once you have your niche covered?
Sometimes taking your influence to the next level means also taking a step outside your comfort zone. Marketing to those that you wouldn’t typically think of. Expanding your focus to uncover a new consumer base. It may mean marketing to those outside your own niche.

To begin expanding your marketing reach start by brainstorming niches closely related to your own industry. For example, a roof repair company may consider their local gutter installation market. Transitioning your advertising dollars to other closely-related markets can be an effective way to tap into a new audience.

You also want to consider the different ways your product or service can be used by others. While it will always have its original use you can add greater value by expanding its utility. Think of new ways to market your product or another subsector of the population it could be useful to.

Expanding outside your own niche also takes a little know-how. You need to consider the best ways to reach others. It may mean looking at new online platforms to use. While the majority of your audience may be on Facebook, there might be an untapped market on Instagram. It may also mean repackaging what you offer or changing how you promote a service. Maybe you could update the areas in which you advertise? While you never want to lose focus of who you are, you also don’t want to pigeonhole who you cater to.
