Here are 5 tips to writing quality press releases:

1. Write about the newsworthy
Press releases should only be used when your business has something worth sharing. New product offerings, a limited promotion, or expanding service area are all great examples of content that would best be served in a release.

 2. Keep the headline catchy but direct
The headline is what will draw the readers in so it needs to be interesting. At the same time though, it need to clearly state what your business is announcing. Creating the perfect mix is sometimes tricky but gets easier with practice. When editing your press release, take time to reconsider your title and how it will be received as well.

 3. Make it a One-Pager
Limit your press release to one page. There seems to be a huge variance of suggested word counts online but a good rule is to keep them between 300 to 500 words and broken up into 3 or 4 paragraphs. During editing, shorten any flowery sentences to make the context easier to digest for the reader.

 4. Keywords still matter
Keywords can still have an impact in the world of press releases. To prove effective, keywords should be used 3 – 4 times throughout the release. As always, it is important to make the words flow organically within the context of your writing.

 5. Keep a template
Why reinvent the wheel each and every time you need a press release? Keep a template on hand to speed up the process and keep your releases uniform. Make sure to change the contact information on your template as needed.
