The last year has been a crazy one for the marketing world. In 2015, we have seen many trends come and go as companies try to claim their spot on social media platforms while taking advantage of whatever is hot at the moment. The coming year appears to likely be another wild ride for marketers looking to push their company forward in the ranks.
Here are the winners and losers you can expect to see in 2016:
– Snapchat – Winner
Over the last two years, we have seen Snapchat continue to grow from a passing novelty into a standard mobile app joining the ranks of Twitter and Instagram in just a short period of time. The 2016 Presidential candidates have even taken to the app to spread their message. Expect to continue to see Snapchat’s presence expand in the coming year.
– eNewsletters – Loser The attention span of the consumer keeps getting smaller and smaller. While email will still prove powerful in the next year, the typical eNewsletter will begin to be phased out as companies start to rely heavily on social media to spread their message.
– Facebook – Winner
In 2015 Facebook proved that it is truly at the pulse of the mainstream public. The social media supergiant released many updates including less promotional ads in the user’s feed and the ability to include GIF-like photos in the profile section. The company’s dedication to giving the people what they want will keep them on top in 2016.
– Etsy – Loser
Online superstore Amazon launched their Handmade store, a handcrafted goods market, in October 2015. While it is yet to be seen if the site will reach the type of success Amazon hopes, it does pose a viable threat to Etsy. In 2016, we may see Etsy decline as Amazon slowly gains market share in this arena.
– Mobile Video Streaming – Winner
2015 was the year of on-the-go video streaming with the huge success of Twitter’s Periscope platform. A once intimidating task for many – streaming yourself live from your mobile device – is now just par for the course for many online personalities. Expect to see Periscope continue to grow in 2016 but also face some fierce competition as new crop-ups try and compete.
