While the average number of followers is 208, having a hundred thousand or even a million followers is not out of the question. But how do you get there? The path to a big following is easier than you think.

Have a Stellar Avatar and Profile
Your avatar should be your most well-known, recognizable logo. If you are an individual, use a great head shot. Also make sure your profile is written well, clearly, and succinctly. Try to capture the true essence of you or your brand.

Go beyond Generic
Your tweets need to be interesting, newsworthy and something others want to share. Stay away from generic phrases such as Good morning or other basic tweets. Add more descriptive words or phrases that show personality.

Direct Links to Your Handle
Make it easy for others to follow you by including a direct link to your Twitter handle on other social media sites. Also include these links on your website and business card for increased exposure.

Follow Others in your Industry
One of the best ways to increase your following is by following others in your industry or those with similar interests. They are the most likely audience to find your content interesting and worth reading. Getting popular in your specific field is one of the keys to success on Twitter.
